PARENT/GUARDIAN AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

BOARD POLICY - 6020

The Board of Education promotes active parent/guardian and family engagement to support overall student well-being. Involving parents/guardians and families as partners in supporting the success of our students and the continuous improvement of our schools is a key tenet of the °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø. This policy and accompanying regulations are intended to 1) promote open communication, 2) establish opportunities for active participation and shared leadership, 3) build school and parent capacity for strong family engagement, and 4) ensure the °ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø’s (°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±Íø) adherence to legal requirements for state and federal programs.

The Board of Education believes that active parent and family engagement is vital to student learning and success. Students achieve more if they receive the continued support of parents/guardians, families, and other significant adults.Ìý

The Superintendent or designee shall work with parents/guardians and family members to jointly develop and agree upon strategies to involve parents/guardians and family members in advisory, decision-making, and advocacy roles and to participate in District and school activities at all grade levels.

Parents/guardians shall be notified of their rights to participate in their children’s education and of the opportunities available to do so. Within established parameters, families have the right to observe instruction and other school activities that involve their children. The Superintendent or designee shall regularly evaluate and report to the Board of Education on the effectiveness of the District’s parent/guardian and family engagement efforts which shall include input from parents/guardians, family members, and school staff on the adequacy of involvement opportunities and on barriers that may inhibit participation.
