Title I

What is Title I?

The purpose of Title I is to provide all children a significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.

The Elementary & Secondary Education Act was reauthorized on December 10, 2015, as the Every Student Succeeds Act, and requires that Districts annually rank and serve schools. Title I schools may implement one of two programs: Title I Schoolwide Program (SWP) or Title I Targeted Assistance (TAS). 澳门开奖网 uses the Schoolwide Program model.

Schoolwide Program (SWP) is the reform effort of Title I. A Schoolwide program school may use its Title I, Part A, funds coupled with other educational funds to upgrade the school's entire educational program, rather than to target services only on identified children. By affecting the entire program of instruction, the overall education of children in the most impoverished schools can be improved. For schools opting to become Schoolwide programs, schools have expanded flexibility and support.

These provisions enable a school to integrate regular and categorical programs into a coherent program for all students.听

Schools receiving these supplemental federal funds are required to provide services that raise the academic achievement level of K through 12th grade participants. Additional support may be provided through professional development and health and guidance services. Parents of children being served have the opportunity to participate in the design and implementation of the program through activities such as serving on the school site council; developing parental involvement policies and compacts; attending parent-teacher conferences, parent training and literacy workshops; participating as classroom volunteers, tutors, etc.
